Canadians Love Cuba: Our Unforgettable Journey to Sanctuary Grand Memories Varadero
Canada and Cuba have a long-standing bond, and our recent stay at Sanctuary Grand Memories Varadero reminded me why Canadians are so drawn to this incredible island. Though the beach wasn’t as calm as usual due to recent hurricanes, the trip still offered the warmth, hospitality, and unforgettable experiences that make Cuba feel like a second home.
Starting the Journey in Style: The VIP Experience
We began our adventure at Pearson’s VIP lounge, where we enjoyed a light buffet, an open bar, and a comfortable space to relax before boarding. With priority boarding and extra legroom on the plane, our trip started with a touch of luxury, setting the tone for an unforgettable vacation in Varadero.
A Smart Arrival Choice: Private Cab to the Resort
Instead of waiting for the transfer bus, we opted for a private cab from the airport to the resort—a quick, comfortable ride for only CAD $50. This choice got us to the resort almost two hours ahead of the transfer bus, allowing for a smooth check-in without the hassle of lines. It was the perfect way to kick off our stay with ease and enjoy the resort amenities right away.
Resilience Amid Power Outages
Power outages are common in Cuba, and they reveal the true spirit of the Cuban people. Every day, the staff showed up with smiles and pride, always ready to make our experience as enjoyable as possible. Their dedication and resilience were inspiring and gave us an appreciation for the incredible warmth and heart of the Cuban people.
Poolside Paradise
Due to recent hurricanes, the beach’s waves were too rough for swimming, so we spent our days by the resort’s inviting pool instead. It became our main hangout, where we could cool off, enjoy the sun, and unwind in great company. The pool was the perfect spot to relax, connecting with others and soaking in the Cuban sunshine.
Outstanding Entertainment
The entertainment team at Sanctuary Grand Memories Varadero was fantastic, keeping us engaged and entertained from morning till night. Whether it was high-energy AquaFit, lively Music Trivia, or top-notch live performances, they made every day fun and memorable, creating a festive atmosphere that brought people together.
Cuban Dining: Simple Yet Enjoyable
Dining in Cuba has its own unique charm. Although the food wasn’t gourmet, we always found something to enjoy, and we even managed to arrange a lobster dinner through our thoughtful butler, adding a special touch to our stay. It’s part of Cuba’s charm—simple yet satisfying.
Cozy and Comfortable Rooms
Our room was clean, cozy, and just right for unwinding after long days spent outdoors. Though the accommodations are a bit dated, they provided everything we needed for a restful, comfortable stay.
New Friends and Lasting Memories
One of the best parts of travel is the connections you make, and this trip was no exception. We quickly bonded with fellow travelers over cocktails and conversations, creating memories that will stay with us long after the trip. These friendships were some of our trip's most meaningful highlights.
Cuba’s Priceless Value
For the experiences and memories we gained, you truly can’t beat the price of a trip to Cuba. From the warm hospitality to the genuine connections, Cuba offers a vacation experience that is invaluable at a great price point. The memories we made will stay with us, and we can’t wait to return.
